Jay Leno, renowned comedian and car aficionado, has lent his celebrity status to a rather unusual endeavour: promoting the sale of nearly $400 million in bonds to finance the relocation and modernisation of the Hollywood Burbank Airport terminal.

In a recently released promotional video, Leno is seen behind the wheel of a meticulously restored 1930 Duesenberg, parked at the airport’s construction site. The purpose? To raise public awareness about the ongoing project and encourage investment through the purchase of airport revenue bonds.

The Hollywood Burbank Airport, situated a convenient distance from major studios like NBCUniversal, Netflix, Nickelodeon, and Walt Disney, serves as a vital transportation hub for industry professionals. Leno, in the video, affectionately refers to Burbank as "an oasis" amidst the perceived chaos of Los Angeles, citing issues like homelessness, crime, and high taxes.

The terminal’s relocation and upgrade are driven by the need to meet current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety regulations. The new facility will boast a substantial 355,000 square feet, incorporating 14 gates and an impressive 6,637 parking spaces.

With Los Angeles set to host significant international events, including the Super Bowl in 2027 and the Summer Olympics and Paralympics in 2028, city officials anticipate a surge in passenger traffic. The new terminal is slated for completion this October, aiming to accommodate this anticipated influx.

The ambitious project carries a hefty price tag, estimated to exceed $1.3 billion. Funding will be sourced from a combination of FAA contributions, airline investments, and airport user fees, according to the City of Burbank’s official website. Leno’s involvement is hoped to boost bond sales, ensuring the timely completion of this crucial infrastructure project.
